"Ye Olde Curosity Shop" in Seattle

This shop ..."Ye Olde Curosity Shop" is one of a kind....It has been in Seattle since the 1800s!

Situated in the heart of downtown Seattle, near the harbour, this has got to be one of the shops that you would be most tempted to walk right in.

Not a place for the faint hearted...and some of the exhibits can be quite grouse when viewed up close....so, be warned! Many of the exhibits originate from foreign sailors who have set foot in Seattle.

There are other interesting exhibits though...for example, Mexican Jumping beans..

Here is the website to "Ye Olde Curosity shop"http://www.yeoldecuriosityshop.com/

Very imposing Red Indian Totem poles await you at the entrance of 'Ye Olde Curosity Shop."

Seen a two headed lamb before...?

3 legged hen...

This one has got to be out of this world...a wild hare with antlers!

Not a loan shark!

Another American icon....the pitbull

Here is a classic American icon....the pitbull.

General C. Patton has one by his side... mean animal.

Interesting architecture in Seattle...

Near the famous "Needle"...., there is this museum of Sci-Fi with its out-of-the-world type of architecture....Have not seen anything quite like it.. Maybe our 'durian' - the Esplanade is worthy of matching this.

Bill Gates stays here....in Seattle

Here are some pictures of waterfront housing in Seattle....captured whilst I was in a car, travelling along the highway. I do what I can with my Olympus SP500UZ, 10x optical zoom....afterall, I'm moving at about 60 km/h on the highway.

Understand that Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, owns and stays in one of those waterfront houses.

Couldn't get a close up but you could see the yachts and powerboats....that's the life!

Here are some more pics of waterfront housing for the mega rich....from a distance.

These are the guys....

If you have read the book 'Fish!' ....these guys in the background are the 'characters' in the book..they throw the fish and have another guy catching it.

Trust me...they really enjoy the work that they do ...just as what the book 'Fish!' said.

The Buskers of Seattle...

Busking is perfectly legal in the USA and you don't need a license to do that!
Here are a couple of pics of buskers that were captured downtown Seattle....including this one with an 'Er Hu'!

The World's Largest Needle

Believe it or not...the tall building that you see in the pic below...is called 'The World's Largest Needle'.
It is a needle...and is the tallest building in Seattle. From most parts of Seattle, you will get to see this icon.

If you are in Seattle, this is one of the places that you must go.
Remember the show Fraser...yes, that is the Needle, the world's largest Needle.

From this Needle, you get a panaromic view of the entire city...

That is Mount Saint Helens....as viewed from the top of the Needle. When Mount Saint Helens erupted sometime in the mid 1980s' or what was the early 1980s'...it spewed a huge cloud of ash that lowered the world's temperature by a couple of degrees!

A view of the city from above...it was a good, clear day. I was told that it rains almost all the time in Seattle. So, I was lucky to have a good, clear day to enjoy such a view.

Yatchs in the marina...many rich people reside in Seattle...including the world's richest man - Bill Gates.

Another view of the sprawling city....

Exotic fish ...from the Pike Fish Market!

"Meow!....I'm a Monk Fish!

Pictures of some of the most exotic fish that I have ever come across....

This one below...is called a Monk Fish...and the fish monger uses it to amuse the tourists who get too near this one..

More flowers from Seattle...

Here are more photographs of flowers from Seattle...still can't name them nor know what they are...so, I can never be a florist or start a conversation with one. Nevertheless, good to feast your eyes on them. Don't you think so?

Flowers of Seattle....

I'm not into flowers...birds and bees...but I couldn't help but take these photographs of the flowers that I have seen in Seattle. Unfortunately, I do not know the names of these flowers...but you can find them in Seattle.

Seattle....."Sleepless in Seattle...."

When you are in Seattle and when you see the piggy...you know you are near the Famous Pike Fish Market....the place mentioned in the motivational books of "Fish!" and "Fish Tales!"

The world's first StarBucks store is also near Pike Market.

The fish in Pike Market always look fresh and good...Here are some of the local products...King Salmon...

A rather unusal looking fruit...

Buskers.....this one comes with an 'Er Hu'...

This is how the market looks like....'Pasar Malam style"...

"This is not the famous fish stall where they 'throw' the fish...but a typical stall that offers the catch of the day.

Notice anything unusual or out of the ordinary...?

You have to hand it to the Americans...for their sense of humour.

Tips on Overcoming Jet Lag

Here are some tips on overcoming the effects of Jet Lag.

Firstly, when you have flown for long hours, you are more than likely to experience the following symptoms: head aches, tiredness, your head feels heavy and your stomach feels unlike its regular self... that is the effects of jet lag.

The change in time zone whilst you are flying disrupts your sleep patterns...better known as circadian rhythms. That upsets the natural balance of things.

Here are some useful tips on overcoming the effects of Jet Lag that I have at least found to be useful during my travels:

(i) Get lots of sleep before the flight.

(ii) Reduce caffeine intake and other stimulants like alcohol before the flight and during the flight

(iii) Eat light

(iv) Try getting some activity on board the plane to improve your blood circulation. Try walking down the aisle once in a while

(v) Practice stretching your arms and legs where possible.

(vi) Stay comfortable on board the plane as much as you can. Wear comfortable clothes.

(vii) There may be medication that can reduce jet lag but most people can do without it.

(viii) Upon arrival, adjust your watch to the local time and plan your activities as you normally would based on the local time.

(ix) Check into your accomodation and have a hot shower.

(x) Schedule important activities such as your business meetings about two days after you have arrived. This helps a lot to relieve some of that jet lag.

Hello!

Hello! I'm Gongg....and I created this blog to share my interests with you.
I'm into travelling and a host of other interests that I guess most ordinary people would be interested in as well.

Recently, I have developed an interest in Graphology...send me samples of your own handwriting or someone you know. I will come up with an analysis of your character, your strengths and weaknesses....something about you that you may not even know about!

Please feel free to share your experiences and ideas with me in my blog.
